Candlemaking Supplies: Must-Haves for the Candlemaker
Beeswax tapers
The following is a basic list of supplies you'll need to start making basic beeswax tapers:
Sheets of beeswax in desired colors
Roll of candle wick
Flame lighter (for smoothing seams)
Small blocks of wood
Scissors
Gilding powder (optional)
Powdered Glitter (optional)
Cookie cutter shapes (optional - used when pressing beeswax instead of rolling)
Paintbrushes (optional)
Votives, pillars, and one-pour ("container") candles
If you want to make votive, pillar, or one-pour candles, or more uniform tapers without seams, use these ingredients. Once you are more familiar with the process, you can play with these supplies, modifying them to make tealights and floating candles.
Double boiler (if you do not have a double boiler, you can even use an old coffee can and put it in a pot to create a makeshift double boiler)
Thermometer
Scales
Ladle
Stirring utensil
Measuring/pouring jug
Paraffin wax or soy wax
Wicks
Coloring/dye
Wax additives (vybar for scented or colored candles, stearic acid for softer low melting point wax)
Candle mold
Mold sealer (white poster putty works well)
Heat gun/blow torch
Wick rods (for making pillars and other non-container candles - a wooden skewer, or in certain circumstances, a clothespin, will work)
Silicone mold-release spray or cooking spray (optional, but recommended)
Fragrance oils/essential oils/herbs (optional)
Wicking needles (optional)
Dipping can (optional)
Water bath (optional)
